Apple AirTag lawsuits are being filed by individuals who say the small tracking devices were secretly used to monitor their movements without their knowledge or consent. The lawsuits allege AirTags were hidden in vehicles, purses, backpacks, clothing, and other personal belongings, allowing stalkers to follow victims through Apple’s Find My network.
Lawsuits claim Apple knew before AirTags were released that the devices could potentially be misused for stalking and domestic abuse. Plaintiffs allege the company nevertheless launched AirTags without adequate safeguards to quickly detect, locate, and disable devices being used for unwanted tracking.
The claims also focus on alleged shortcomings in Apple’s early anti-stalking protections, including delayed tracking alerts, limited protections for Android users, audible warnings that could be difficult to hear or be disabled, and the need for victims to physically locate an AirTag to stop tracking. Plaintiffs argue these alleged shortcomings allowed unwanted tracking to continue for hours or longer before some individuals realized they were being followed.
Apple has since expanded its unwanted-tracking protections and has stated that AirTags are designed to track personal belongings, not people.
The lawsuits focus on allegations that Apple knew or should have known that AirTags could be misused to secretly track people.
Plaintiffs allege that concerns about AirTags being used for stalking existed before the product was released and that Apple began receiving reports of people discovering AirTags hidden in their vehicles and belongings after the devices launched in 2021.
The lawsuits further allege that Apple’s early safety measures were insufficient to promptly warn individuals that an unknown AirTag was traveling with them. Some plaintiffs claim tracking notifications could take hours or days to appear and that it could be difficult to locate a concealed AirTag even after receiving an alert.
Apple has since expanded its anti-tracking protections, including alerts designed to help iPhone and Android users identify unknown compatible Bluetooth trackers that appear to move with them.
The lawsuits seek to hold Apple responsible for alleged injuries and damages resulting from the misuse of AirTag technology.

Yes. Individual lawsuits involving alleged AirTag stalking continue to be filed against Apple. After a federal judge declined to certify proposed classes of alleged AirTag stalking victims in March 2026, more than a dozen individuals filed separate lawsuits in California federal court.
