We have helped to secure more than $80 billion in jury verdicts and settlements since 1955.
Dr. Elaine Sharp, a Gulf Breeze, Florida, physician, faces over four dozen felony charges for her “dangerous prescribing practices,” which allegedly contributed to numerous prescription opioid overdoses—some fatal.
Sharp is accused of recklessly prescribing large amounts of opioid medications to patients without proper medical oversight. The prescriptions led to severe addiction and, in many cases, fatal overdoses.
Our law firm is investigating cases where Dr. Sharp, along with the pharmacies that filled these prescriptions, played a significant role in causing deaths from Oxycodone and other painkiller overdoses.
If you or a loved one suffered an overdose due to overprescribed opioids by Dr. Elaine Sharp, you may have a case. Call us at (800) 277-1193 or fill out our brief Free Evaluation Form.
Victims of Sharp’s negligent prescribing or their families may be eligible to pursue legal action. These lawsuits seek compensation for the immense harm caused by Sharp’s actions and the pharmacies’ failure to intervene in the Pensacola doctor’s unsafe practices.
Our lawyers aim to hold the pharmacies accountable for contributing to the opioid overdose deaths in our community and the devastating impact they had on families and the community.
Painkiller addiction settlements and verdicts vary, depending on the type and severity of injuries resulting from the addiction. Some types of damages that could result from this type of case include:
Our law firm’s dedicated work led to a major nationwide opioid settlement with several pharmaceutical companies responsible for the opioid crisis.
Thanks, in part, to our attorneys, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Teva, and Allergan will pay over $18.5 billion to state and local governments to help fight the epidemic. With previous settlements from opioid distributors and manufacturers, the total settlement now reaches nearly $60 billion.
Several of our lawyers played key roles in the opioid epidemic litigation.
Attorney Peter Mougey was appointed to the Plaintiffs Executive Committee and led the Distributor and Dispensing Case in the national prescription opiates multidistrict litigation. He has been credited as being a key architect in the $60 billion opioid settlements, and he was awarded the American Association for Justice’s 2024 Steven J. Sharp Public Service Award for this role.
Attorney Jeff Gaddy served as Lead Counsel for the case against Walgreens. He was co-lead of the trial team that obtained a $500-million settlement agreement with Walgreens for its role in facilitating the opioid crisis in New Mexico.
Other attorneys, including Page Poerschke and Laura Dunning, held leadership roles in managing various aspects of the case.
Our firm has experience holding pharmacies accountable for opioid addiction at a national level. Today, our lawyers are driven to apply this knowledge to those affected in our hometown of Pensacola, Florida; Escambia County; and all of Northwest Florida.
OB/GYN Dr. Elaine Sharp, of Pensacola Beach, faces over four dozen felony charges, with more legal trouble on the horizon, according to Pensacola News Journal. A report from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) suggests Sharp may be linked to as many as 40 deaths.
48 Felony Charges Linked to Escambia County Opioid Prescriptions
On October 3, 2024, Sharp was arrested in Escambia County. She is charged with:
Prescriptions Written By Sharp Linked to 40 Deaths
The FDLE and FBI investigations began in 2021. Authorities believe some of Sharp’s patients died as a result of her “dangerous prescribing practices.”
According to the FDLE, from 2017 to 2023, around 40 of Sharp’s patients died from narcotics overdoses or polysubstance toxicity linked to medications she prescribed.
Pharmacies have been held accountable for prescription opioid addiction because they played a key role in dispensing large quantities of opioids without proper oversight.
Many pharmacies failed to monitor suspicious prescriptions or flag excessive amounts of opioids being distributed to individuals and communities, despite clear signs of abuse and misuse.
By neglecting their duty to ensure that medications were prescribed and used safely, these pharmacies contributed to the widespread addiction crisis. As a result, they are being held responsible for their role in fueling the epidemic and the harm it has caused to countless lives across the country.
This includes the senseless prescription opiates overdose deaths in Pensacola, Escambia County, and Northwest Florida
