The digestive system is comprised of the digestive tract, which includes the mouth, throat, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus, and the organs that lie outside of the digestive tract, including the pancreas, the liver, and the gallbladder.

The digestive system is responsible for collecting food, converting the food into nutrients, absorbing the nutrients into the bloodstream, and removing the undigestible components of food from the body.
