Edward Scott Morrison Prescription Drug Lawsuits

Levin Papantonio Investigates Claims Related to Alleged Illegal Opioid Prescribing

Levin Papantonio is investigating potential claims on behalf of individuals and families who may have suffered harm after receiving controlled substance prescriptions from Edward Scott Morrison, a 58-year-old physician from Pensacola Beach who faces a 41-count federal indictment alleging the unlawful distribution of controlled substances. The allegations have not been proven, and Morrison is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

If you or a loved one received prescriptions from Edward Scott Morrison and later experienced addiction, overdose, serious injury, or the loss of a family member, you may have legal rights.

Federal Indictment Alleges Illegal Distribution of Controlled Substances

According to the federal indictment, prosecutors allege Morrison prescribed controlled substances outside the usual course of professional medical practice and without a legitimate medical purpose. The indictment alleges Morrison prescribed opioids, stimulants, benzodiazepines, testosterone, and other controlled substances without conducting appropriate physical examinations, adequately reviewing patients’ medical histories, maintaining required medical records, or determining whether the prescriptions served a legitimate medical purpose.

Federal prosecutors further allege Morrison illegally prescribed and caused to be dispensed at least 25,500 controlled substance pills, including more than 22,000 opioid pills and over 3,000 stimulant pills, between 2021 and 2025.

Who May Have a Claim?

You may wish to speak with an attorney if you or a loved one:

  • Received opioid or other controlled substance prescriptions from Edward Scott Morrison.
  • Developed opioid dependence or addiction following treatment.
  • Suffered an overdose or other serious medical complications.
  • Lost a loved one after receiving prescribed controlled substances.
  • Believe prescriptions were issued without appropriate medical examinations or oversight.

Every case is unique, and an attorney can evaluate whether you may have a potential legal claim.

Civil Claims Are Separate From Criminal Charges

A criminal indictment is intended to determine whether criminal laws were violated. Civil lawsuits serve a different purpose by allowing injured individuals and families to seek compensation for injuries and losses resulting from negligent or otherwise wrongful conduct.

Potential claims may include:

  • Medical negligence
  • Negligent prescribing
  • Wrongful death
  • Failure to properly evaluate or monitor patients
  • Prescription drug-related injuries
